Colorado-based bike maker Moots has unveiled the Express, its first carbon fiber bike , which is also its first electric bike .
Moots has been handcrafting bicycle frames for over a decade and is also well known for its high-end lightweight titanium bicycles.
However, this time, Moots used a carbon fiber frame for his bike instead of titanium. According to the company, “titanium is not the right material for a high-end/performance electric bike.” The company also stated: “By building the frame with a level of stability and robustness from Ti, the benefits of Ti tube characteristics are lost in the amount of material needed to ensure a large battery and powerful drive unit.” . In short, we would need to use so much titanium in points of the frame to make the ride safe that legendary ride quality characteristics would be lost.”
The Moots Express electric bike is de C Level Executive List signed for gravel riding and is equipped with the Shimano EP801 class 3 mid-mount drive unit, offering 60 Nm of torque and a power-assisted top speed of up to 45 km/h.
The Express motor is powered by a removable 504 Wh Shimano battery located in the down tube. On a single charge, the battery can provide a range of more than 160 kilometers (100 miles) in eco mode, depending on the rider and terrain. Furthermore, the battery can be recharged in 4 hours with the help of a Shimano EC-E8004-2 charger.
The Moots Express electric bike features a full carbon monocoque frame along with a carbon fork, seatpost and handlebars. The Moots Express electric bike can be easily picked up and weighs 15 kg.
The Moots Express electric bike also includes Shimano XT 1 x 11 drivetrain with Ultegra shifters; Ultegra hydraulic disc brakes; a WTB Gravelier Ti saddle; a set of Shimano GRX RX-870 carbon wheels; and Panaracer GravelKing SK 700 x 50c tubeless tires.
The Moots Express electric bike offers five assist modes to choose from, or also provides an automatic shifting mode via the left shifter.
The Moots electric bike comes in four size options: S, M, L, and XL. The bike is priced at $9,999 on its official website .
